City Winery St. Louis presents Songwriter Series ft. Mold Gold, Austin Jones, and Samantha Clemons on February 25th @ 7pm!

Join us on February 25th as we welcome Mold Gold, Austin Jones, and Samantha Clemons for an evening of songs and stories at City Winery. This intimate and immersive monthly concert series showcases both established and up-and-coming songwriters from St. Louis and beyond. Come out and discover your new favorite artist, or listen to your long-time loves! Samantha: A genre-fluid singer-songwriter and musician based in St. Louis, Samantha Clemons is hard to pin down. But better that than being boxed in. Born in the sweltering summer heat of Houston, Texas in 1988, Samantha’s music finds its roots in the echoes of gospel choirs, jazz and blues rhythms that surrounded her during her childhood. Her mother–a St. Lucian musician, singer and artist herself–was the first to see the spark of her potential and bought Samantha her first guitar at age nine, shaping the songstress she’d become. The daughter of two retired veterans, Samantha spent her childhood packing up and shipping out every few years, sheltered–in more ways than one–on military installations around the world. In those early years, music was one of few constants. No matter where her family ended up - or for how long - Mahalia Jackson, Nina Simone, and Aretha Franklin would fill the walls, regardless of the continent upon which they stood. That nomadic life has served her well, though. In her lyrics, Samantha offers up razor-sharp observations effortlessly and her ability to make common ground out of thin air is a gift hard-earned and liberally shared with her listeners, to say nothing of the voice with which they’re delivered. At once both deep and delicate, her vivid vibrato drips with emotion and vulnerability. As NPR noted of her 2021 Tiny Desk submission, "Clemons' voice is striking: secured in deep depths in one moment, then bursting like wildfire in the next... the story she tells... is so beautifully imagined." Over the years, Samantha’s music has also been highlighted by the Dallas Observer, Ghost of Blind Lemon, and URB Magazine. And her most recent single “Colored" was featured on Colourful Radio in the UK. Mold Gold: Mold Gold is the solo folk project of St. Louis musician Mere Harrach. Their music is influenced by fingerstyle guitar and lyricism of artists like Adrianne Lenker, Karen Dalton, and Hannah Read. Harrach also plays bass and cello in local projects Planters, Jenerator Jenkins, Orange Foods, and Lucky Shells. Austin: Austin Jones is an Americana musician, through-and-through. Raised in St. Louis, Austin found himself immersed in and inspired by the city’s rich musical history, merging classic blues and folk traditions with modern approaches. After years of performing with his band, The Bootheel Boys, Austin is back in the city that created him and ready to share his new sound. Aarik Danielsen from the Columbia Tribune notes that Austin's songs "deftly blends myth and muck, romance and lovesickness, awe and pity — and it does so sounding like a conversation with an old friend by the glowing light of a couple cigarettes. Keeping up with the rambling Jones and his boys turns out to be a trip worth taking."
